The Balcony Series marks a creative restart after I moved into a new home. Though the new space lacks a terrace, it has a small balcony where light quietly streams in, falling across the walls and potted plants—a tender, ordinary moment that became the most poetic part of my daily life.
These works continue the emotional resonance of my earlier Terrace Flower Series, capturing the sense of calm and quiet presence in my favorite corner. It’s a space where the sun gently embraces and plants silently accompany me. Despite the change in surroundings, I continue to seek a rhythm and way of breathing in this intimate area.
The small human figure that frequently appeared in the Terrace Series is retained here as a symbolic self-portrait—a quiet observer within the scene. I also incorporate xuan paper (rice paper) into the materials, a deliberate connection to my Dryness Series, which represents resilience and the enduring strength forged in times of emotional drought. The material serves as a subtle reminder: the tenderness of the present is built upon the cracks of the past.
Balcony Series is a reflection on coexistence—with life, with oneself. It’s about stepping away from noise and slowly finding a steady place within.
